What Does It Look Like?-Paul Jacobs

Proverbs 23:26 (AMPC)

My son, give me your heart and let your eyes observe and delight in my ways,

DEFINITION – HEART (Strong’s Concordance, No#3820 = ‘leb’)

- That part of a man which thinks, lives, has a personality and most of all responds to God (cf. Proverbs 23)

DEFINITION – OBSERVE (verb)

- to conform one's action or practice to

- to watch carefully especially with attention to details or behavior for

the purpose of arriving at a judgment

DEFINITION – DELIGHT (verb)

- to take great pleasure

- to give joy or satisfaction to

So let’s re-READ that scripture according to the definitions that I just

shared with you… God’s says;

“My son, give me your part of you that thinks, lives, has a personality and most of all responds to ME, God… let your eyes watch carefully, especially with attention to detail for the purpose of arriving as a judgement (or decision) about My Ways, AND take great pleasure, satisfaction and joy in My Ways.”

We can say that and it is TRUE… it is God’s Word… it works for those who have a testimony… BUT WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE???

2 Chronicles 14:2-4 (MSG)

Asa was a good king. He did things right in GOD’s eyes. He cleaned house:

got rid of the pagan altars and shrines, smashed the sacred stone pillars,

and chopped down the sex-and-religion groves (Asherim). He told Judah to

center their lives in GOD, the God of their fathers, to do what the law said,

and to follow the commandments.

Are you ready to clean house? What is cleaning house for you and your family?

Apostle McKenzie has shared OPENLY, that he is getting with his entire family and setting some standards that will govern his household and who will not comply, they cannot remain…

CLEANING GOD’S HOUSE

 In my previous marriage, I did not clean house, allowing anything to remain and linger, left unchecked and unexposed…those spirits CLEANED OUT MY HOUSE! I see it clearer now.

King Asa centered Judah’s lives in God. What is God centered around for you and your family?

 We cannot let God be on the back-burner … a second thought …our Plan B in life.

 I have heard people say, “…and if nothing else, WE CAN PRAY.”

o They have already failed.

Are you willing to follow the commandments? Let’s make it practical… what scriptures are you following? What scripture from the fast are you and I still living out (7 days since we come off the fast???)

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE???

1 Samuel 30:4-8 (MSG)

4-6  David and his men burst out in loud wails—wept and wept until they were exhausted with weeping. David’s two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail widow of Nabal of Carmel, had been taken prisoner along with the rest. And suddenly David was in even worse trouble. There was talk among the men, bitter over the loss of their families, of stoning him.

6-7  David strengthened himself with trust in his GOD. He ordered Abiathar

the priest, son of Ahimelech, “Bring me the Ephod so I can consult God.”

Abiathar brought it to David. 8  Then David prayed to GOD, “Shall I go after these raiders? Can I catch them?” The answer came, “Go after them! Yes, you’ll catch them! Yes, you’ll make

the rescue!”

These men, including David lost everything that mattered to them and the men all turned on David, thinking they would take out their grief on him… Have you ever faced a situation where you were blamed for everything that went wrong … on your job, in your home,

marriage or ministry?

o I CAN REMEMBER BEING TOLD THAT IN ALL THE YEARS

OF OUR MARRIAGE, THE ONLY MISTAKE WAS

ALLOWING ME TO MAKE SO MANY MISTAKES… what do

you say to that?!?!

 Are you willing to take the insults, take the accusations and take every failure whether you opened the door or not and bring it to the Lord in Prayer for the Answer?

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE???

In Sunday’s Message, Apostle McKenzie illustrated from the Apostle Paul’s instructions to his son in the faith Timothy, what true faith in God should look like and be modeled… but he did so by giving Timothy clear view as to what will come in the guise of truth…

1 Timothy 6:2-10 (MSG)

2-5  These are the things I want you to teach and preach. If you have leaders there who teach otherwise, who refuse the solid words of our Master Jesus and this godly instruction, tag them for what they are: ignorant windbags who infect the air with germs of envy, controversy, bad-

mouthing, suspicious rumors. Eventually there’s an epidemic of backstabbing, and truth is but a distant memory. They think religion is a way to make a fast buck. 6-8  A devout life does bring wealth, but it’s the rich simplicity of being yourself before God. Since we entered the world penniless and will leave it penniless, if we have bread on the table and shoes on our feet, that’s enough. 9-10  But if it’s only money these leaders are after, they’ll self-destruct in no time. Lust for money brings trouble and nothing but trouble. Going down that path, some lose their footing in the faith completely and live to regret it bitterly ever after.

We spent 10-days in fasting, reflection, repentance and returning to

the Lord…

- We heard so many messages on the Prayer line on how to

Return to the Lord… Just the Prayer Recap from that Friday a

couple weeks ago was sufficient to cover MAJOR areas of my

life

- Even though, if there are still blind-spots and areas we pay no

attention to, are we open enough spiritually to be ‘TAGGED’ and

shown what we really look like, spiritually??? We must give up

whatever reputation we think we have and is important and

WANT GOD!!!

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE???

Verse 6 says, a devout life brings wealth…

 Are we paying our bills on-time?

 Are we living beyond our means to impress others?

 Are we bragging about being on the prayer line but that’s ALL

the praying you do in 12-18 waking hours?

 Do we pay our tithes faithfully, come to church on-time, and do

all the spiritual stuff in the open, but ignore the needs of our

father, mother and closets family?

o I admire Evangelist Spencer’s life as he sacrifices weeks to

care for his father and mother. He has shared that he is the

driver, cleans, cooks when possible and I am sure there

are a number of things he has left out so not to make it

about himself… but Honoring Your Father & Mother, THAT

IS AN EXAMPLE OF A DEVOUT LIFE!

 The opposite can be true as well, if you are in it for ‘self-centered gain’ … that is all LUST is; going after things and doing things for PERSONAL GAIN…not at the benefit of another, solely.

 The scripture says that those who do this regret it BITTERLY in the end…o When I read that, it tells me there comes a time after the mistake that our eyes are open, but it’s too late.

SO WE LEARN NOW… WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE???

Finally, some of you might know that I am an avid runner. I have run almost all my life; all types of races and places… but 6 years ago I took it up seriously. Training. Consistency. Nutrition. You name it. In fact, some on this line this morning has gone for a run with me or even ran a couple 5K races.

But I take this so serious and I truly enjoy it that when you join me, I can tell who is ready and who is not. I can see if you are ill-equipped and if what you have on will hinder your progress or even mine, if I have a goal I am running towards that day like a certain pace or distance.

How is that??? How do I know WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE???

Listen to the Apostle Paul prepare his spiritual son in the same chapter we just read from…

1 Timothy 6:11-12 (MSG)

Running Hard

11-12  But you, Timothy, man of God: Run for your life from all this. Pursue a righteous life—a life of wonder, faith, love, steadiness, courtesy. Run hard and fast in the faith. Seize the eternal life, the life you were called to, the life you so fervently embraced in the presence of so many witnesses.

In order for you to pursue this righteous life, you have to know what it looks like! How did Timothy know that when Paul mentions these qualities in a letter, he would be up for the task… it was because Timothy had for years a living example before him. The Apostle Paul

was simply giving Timothy a rundown of what his life and ministry was like before him.

We at Panorama have the same living witness that whether we are being taught over the pulpit a message on “Competing Forces” or being instructed on the Prayer line on the seriousness of examining yourself BEFORE taking the Lord’s Communion… it is not coming

from a book, but rather a life well-tested and lived…

Before we pray, let’s remember our foundational scripture… as we expanded it using the definitions we found;
